It's not as exciting as tracking down Alien Bounty Hunters, but preventing a friend or family member from falling prey to scumbags is a form of justice that's within everyone's reach.   

The links are by no means exhaustive.  These are, however, the ones I use in checking out strange stories.

 


Hoaxes

There's a lot of good folk on the Internet.  Unfortunately, there's also a lot of unprincipled scumbags out there, too.  These websites are dedicated to educating people about hoaxes. 

 


Rumors And Urban Legends

No, you can't avoid paying traffic tickets with an International drivers' license, and forwarding email to your friends won't win you prizes or a video clip.  The very best researchers of urban legends are found at Snopes (the San Fernando Folklore Society).  Check with them and with these other resources to see if that email you got is real or phony!

 


 


Scams & Frauds

There's times when the old "One born every minute" rule seems to be true.  People fall for the darndest scams, believing that anything they see on a web page or in email must be true!  Check out those questionable offers at one of these sites:

The Sentinel

Law Enforcement Officials in Canada, the US, and Australia are working together to fight Internet fraud.  The Sentinel is a place where you can do "due dilligence" research and file complaints.
