Surreal, Anndie, MagsRose and I crashed the
Tilt Benefit in Vancouver, BC.
Well, okay. We bought tickets. But we showed
up anyway and had a
great night. Whenever I mentioned being from
Seattle and having
brought the Tilt folks down for the GunCon,
everybody said "so
*you're* the ones!!!" Apparently we've
gotten lots of good publicity
from Patrick, Lance, and the others who came
to Seattle. Of the folks
who came to Seattle for the GunCon, I saw
Patrick, Geo, Lance, Heidi
and John at the benefit. Got a chance to at
least say hello to all of
them except John, who was off on the other
side of the very large
room. Lance is the recent daddy of a new
baby boy as of about three
months ago. Congratulations, Lance, and hi
everbody! It was great to
see you again!
I helped take tickets for a while at the
door to help out. Bruce and
his wife arrived, and a little later, so did
Tom and his wife. Bruce
introduced me to them. Tom and his wife are
very cool people, very
pleasant and fun. I really liked Tom's sense
of humor. There's a
pleasant hint of evil to it that appeals to
me. While I met him in
passing at the LGM Pilot Premier in LA, I
didn't have any time to
talk to him there, as I'd met him just
before they started herding
the stars out for dinner. I was so pleased
to meet Tom and his wife!
They were both a delight to talk to. I also
passed along greetings
from the Frohike Liberation Organization,
which is still around,
although the site hasn't been updated in
about nine million years.
(Hi Reade!)
Tom agreed to keep us updated at TV Tome LGM/The
Warehouse about what
he's up to in his career. He says he lurks
on the TV Tome LGM site,
and likes it. He also seems to appreciate
the work the fans have been
doing and the effort we've been making for
the show, even though it
wasn't picked up for a second season. I sort
of suspect he's Funsten,
who provided us with locations last year for
the LGM show pilot.
Thank you Tom! We really appreciate your
input and support! He said
he saw some of the photos that had been
posted from this March's
GunFention. Surr and Anndie expressed some
alarm at this, but Tom
said, "Of course I saw them. That's
what we do."
Good news for GunFen: I asked Tom if he
would consider coming down to
Seattle for the GunCon next year. He agreed
to consider it. I said,
"so how much do I have to bribe you
with to get you there?" He
grinned and said he'd think about it. So
folks, start saving your
pennies now, because I'm going to be working
on Bruce too. If we're
exceedingly lucky, and we can scrape up
enough funds, we MIGHT be
able to get both of them to the 2003
GunFention!
Currently neither Tom nor Bruce are working,
but Tom did say that
"Edgemont" (a Fox Family Channel
show about teens) has asked him to
direct 3 to 6 episodes next year, starting
in the fall. He'd worked
for them last year and was invited back, so
all you Braidwood fans
will get to see more of his directing work.
We'll keep you updated as
we learn more!
Not related to the Tilt Benefit, but still
of interest, Sally has
reported that Dean will be in Las Vegas in
September, performing at
Harrah's. We'll let everybody know dates and
particulars as soon as
we have concrete information about show
dates and times!
And back to the Benefit: I introduced Surr,
Anndie and Mags to Bruce
and Tom and their wives. We all sat around
and chatted for a while
until the band started, and it became far
too noisy for conversation.
I also told Tom about Allronix and how she
sent her TV to Fox. He
said he'd heard that she intended to (it had
been up on the site at
one point) but hadn't realized she'd really
done it. This amused him
very much, and he thought it was a wonderful
idea.
Surr asked Tom about how to get "Da
Vinci's Inquest" - a Canadian
courtroom drama he has directed and won an
award for -- in the US. He
said he heard it is playing on a US cable
channel but was not sure
which one. He said he thought it was "ShowCase"
so we'll be looking
around for that, and let you know what we
find!
I'd been talking with Bruce about Byers and
suggested, during the
course of a conversation, that Byers was
saving himself for Susanne.
He said he figured Byers was a closet case
-- especially after "The
Lying Game" and all that went on with
Carl/Carol. "What was up with
them?" he asked. This, of course, is
what the slash writers have been
asking all along. I have to wonder what the
Gillnitz collective was
thinking there! Amusing to some fans,
terrifying to others, if it was
blatant enough that Bruce would say a thing
like that, well -- okay,
I'm not going there.
One of our Topica list GunFen sent a
condolence card to the family of
Melvin Frohike after "Jump the
Shark." The card was delivered to Mr.
Braidwood in my presence, and he enjoyed and
was amused by the card
and delivery.
At the silent auction, Anndie won a script
of the XFiles episode 'The
End' (the last ep filmed in Vancouver),
signed by Chris Carter, and a
bit of XFiles crew memorabilia. She also won
the cash 50/50 pot, and
bought the four of us dinner after the
benefit! Thanks sweetie!
From the sounds of the preliminary
information, it looks like the
benefit did better than breaking even -- the
crowd had been fairly
small for the venue (looked like maybe 250
people to me, but I didn't
count them), and I'd had some concerns.
To Patrick & Co -- I hope that it was a
great success and that you
did well! We still have things coming up at
auction on the Ebay site,
as I mentioned, so there will be more coming
from the GunFen. We'll
let you know as soon as things are running
more smoothly!
Faithfully yours,
Erynn
